Hubert Reeves is not very known outside France and Canada, but he played there a similar role to Carl Sagan. He was an astrophysicist (specialized in stellar nucleosynthesis), and a prolific science popularizer, in the 1980s.
He was an early and accute environmentalist, understanding the danger of climate change and biodiversity loss long before media hype.
He died yesterday, leaving a huge compendium of books and initiatives. I had to make this silly zathoth cameo, as his "Poussière d'étoiles" (stardust) book was just right to Sagan's "Cosmos", on my teenager shelf.
